Social Media Tips, Trends and Updates | February Recap

Social media tips and trends

We are two months into 2024 and Social Media has already got us trying to catch up on all trends and algorithm changes. In this months recap, we have everything to stay up-to-date with Social Media tips, trends and updates in one quick read!

TikTok

Throughout February, TikTok took a turn with more horizontal videos popping up in our feeds. It seems the platform is urging users to embrace longer, horizontal videos exceeding 1-minute for a chance at boosted views within 72 hours of posting. If you're feeling stuck in the 300-view prison, it might be time to switch up your format!

The ongoing feud between Tiktok & Universal continues to blemish our experience, with some videos suffering from muted audio. My advice? Hold off on deleting those videos just yet. Given TikTok's integral role in promoting and shaping trending music within pop culture, here's hoping for a swift resolution to this issue.

Instagram

While Instagram typically keeps us on our toes with a flurry of updates 🥴, February was relatively quiet on the app development front. Still, there were a few noteworthy additions, such as the ability to spotlight a post comment in your stories. I imagine this feature could be a fun addition for lifestyle influencers fielding questions about where their followers can snag featured items, giving a significant boost to story engagement.

Copyright-free music we love.

It can be a pain to look for the right audio to pair with your boosted reels. Give these gems a try.

Funky, groovy beat

7,7k reels

26,6k reels

23k reels

14,9k reels

20,4k reels.

YouTube

YouTube rolled out its in-app video creation tool to the Netherlands and several other markets last month. YouTube Create offers a familiar experience similar to Instagram and TikTok, allowing users to upload clips, trim and split videos, apply effects, and access royalty-free music to enhance their content. It's a handy tool for swiftly putting together shorts, vlogs and longer-format videos.

LinkedIn

A recent LinkedIn update says that your dusty old posts could still go viral. LinkedIn's algorithm change allows "suggested posts", where your best posts will be sticking around in peoples feeds for months, even years, reaching exactly who you want it to connect with. *This feature is still in early testing

My suggestion, do a quick audit of your old posts to make sure the links are working. Who knows, your moment to become a LinkedInfluencer could be around the corner. Read more on that one here: https://www.entrepreneur.com/science-technology/with-this-linkedin-algorithm-change-your-best-posts-could/470219

That’s our round-up for Feb! For more insights and updates, be sure to follow PBS's social accounts. We'll be sharing our favourites every first Monday of the month.
